Give yourself the gift of an energy boost, right now.
The joy of physical movement is a gift you can give yourself every day.
The energy boost from such movement is instantaneous and lasts for hours.
Too often, we envision exercise as something we *have* to do. We feel obligated to work out. It becomes a chore.
Let us instead envision daily exercise as a *gift* you give to your mind, body, and soul.
Because it is a gift.
By exercising: - You are giving yourself a break from the pressures of the world.
- You are giving yourself the gift of enhanced creativity and a higher state of alertness the whole day through. - You are giving yourself the gift of inward calm.
- You are giving yourself the gift of time. (A daily workout may even mean you'll need to sleep less).
- You are giving yourself the gift of better health, perhaps even a longer life.
- You are giving yourself the gift of energy, because a daily workout will boost your energy like nothing else.
- You are giving yourself the physical joy of movement.
The gift of feeling your pulse in your face, the hair moving on your head. This is the gift of a blissful present moment experience: the gift of feeling truly alive and vibrant.
MAKING IT HAPPEN
Even when we think of it as a gift, a daily workout can be difficult to weave into our crammed schedules.
If you're strapped for time, focus on intensity in a cardiovascular workout.
That's what gives you the most intense energy rush. (Of course, you'll still want to be sure to stretch, warm up, cool down, and drink plenty of water).
Exercise outdoors whenever possible. Think of the time as pure soul food, because it is.
Above all, remember that an exercise regimen is one of the best things you can do for your body, heart, mind, and soul. Make the time.
FRESH IDEAS
Again, it sometimes helps to recruit a friend to make the commitment with you. Friends can provide new ways to make it happen, and remind you of why you wanted to make the changes in the first place.
On the More Energy for Moms Support Boards, for example, we've heard lots of fresh ideas for getting moving each day.
One mom enjoys long prayerful walks. One mom is training to walk a marathon for the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society.
When she exercises, she isn't giving a gift just to herself but to all the people who will benefit from the thousands of dollars she has already raised. What an incentive to get moving!
~~TODAY'S AFFIRMATION~~
Just for today, I will give myself-body, mind, and soul, the gift of joyful physical movement.
Note: Always discuss plans to begin an exercise regimen with your physician.
