Spring Fever is Good Feng Shui!, self help article by Jan McCracken aka Jannie Mac
Self Help article:
Spring has officially arrived! Along with wild flowers popping their little heads up and hills of lush green comes "spring fever"! Spring fever can be a very good thing and I associate spring fever with good Feng Shui!
Let's look at some basics of Feng Shui and see how positive a little spring fever can actually be . . . In aspiring to create harmony and balance in our lives and homes, we begin with basic Feng Shui principles.
Following are some "Feng Shui Spring Fever Actions" to greet this wonderful and special time of year . . .
Feng Shui Spring Fever Action #1 . . .
Look at the entrance to your home. Is it inviting? Any dead plants straggling around from winter? Peeling paint? Maybe a broken gate latch or loose front door knob? All pretty depressing, huh?
Take one day and add a fresh coat of paint ~ maybe change the colour of the front door ~ how about a bright Chinese red ~ new paint is absolutely magical! It is like breathing new life (chi) into a project! Plant some colourful, spring flowers and fix what needs fixing! Add a colourful new doormat to welcome guests and make you smile when you arrive home after a hard day's work!
Feng Shui Spring Fever Action #2 . . .
As we enter your sacred space, try to be objective ~ pretend you are a "visitor" in your own home! As you look around with a "discovering eye", look for clutter ~ are there stacks of old newspapers and magazines or piles of old clothes that you have been meaning to recycle? Are your unfinished winter projects in a heap on the floor of your home office?
Begin with the most fundamental Feng Shui cure of clearing clutter which directly parallels spring cleaning. Get rid of all that STUFF you don't want or need NOW! Store your projects in an orderly fashion on a closet shelf ~ consider buying inexpensive plastic containers to organize, store and label ongoing projects to keep them in tact and all in one place when you are ready to work on them again.
What about those items that you haven't used since LAST spring? How about gathering them in boxes and bags and have a yard sale or donating to your favourite charity.
I know a lot of this sounds very familiar ~ HOWEVER ~ Spring is a time of new beginnings ~ rejuvenation ~ beauty and freshness ~ so you may have heard it before and DONE NOTHING!
Clutter definitely drags your spirit down and creates subconscious messages that your sacred space is out of control! Spring Fever is great action to apply here to improve your attitude and nurture your spirit ~ ahhhhhh ~ good "Spring Feng Shui"!
Feng Shui Spring Fever Action #3 . . .
Does your furniture seem boring and un-inviting? As you go on your "objective adventure" throughout your home, sit down and experience every seat in your house! How does it feel ~ is it open ~ welcoming ~ relaxing? Is it facing a wall or is it cramped, creating an uncomfortable feeling? Think about it ~ there are some places in your home that you never sit ~ only guests occupy those seats! Make sure each seat in your home is experiencing as much open space as possible and meandering chi!
If your furniture seems boring, consider slipcovers ~ they are very "in" and chic! Make sure you choose complimentary and positive Feng Shui colors for YOU and the elements of the area . . . ahhhhhhh . . . MORE good "Spring Feng Shui"!
Feng Shui Spring Fever Action #4 . . .
Do you have a dining room or hallway that is just BLAH and not inviting? Add a little pizzaz of color and texture invoking a welcoming and comforting air with a beautiful area rug. Watch this area activate new and vibrant chi depending on the fabrics and the colors that you choose . . . ahhhhhhh. . . "Spring Feng Shui" feels good . . . .
Spring Fever Feng Shui Action #5 . . .
Treat yourself to a bouquet of beautiful and inexpensive daffodils. They emanate cheery chi! Place them in your dining room for all to enjoy . . . ahhhhhhh . . . a breath of "Spring Feng Shui"!
Spring Fever Feng Shui Action #6 . . .
Re-arrange photos ~ consolidating all old photos into a hallway or an out of the way area ~ they trigger old memories. Spark your spirit in areas that you spend a lot of time with recent, fun-filled, smiling photos . . . ahhhhhhh . . . "Spring Feng Shui"!
Spring Fever Feng Shui Action #7 . . .
Your extended sacred space ~ your garden or even a balcony off your apartment is an extension of your living space. Spend time pulling weeds and throwing away old plants that have gone by the wayside during the winter months. Fill pots with invigorating splashes of fresh spring color with bedding plants. Your extended spaces have a definite impact on your attitude and the disbursement of natural and positive chi . . . ahhhhhhh MORE good "Spring Feng Shui"!
Spring Fever Feng Shui Action #8 . . .
And how about those winter cobwebs in your mind, spirit and body? Only you can answer this one and provide the solutions! Come on ~ be good to yourself ~ take a long, hot bath with some of your favourite herbs and think about what would make you happier with yourself . . . this may result in some meditative thinking as well as some list making. Remember . . . Spring is a time of rebirth ~ rejuvenation ~ fresh beginnings ~ begin good Spring Feng Shui within your own temple ~ YOU!
Brighten and freshen your spirit with fresh, new, Spring-time Spirit!
HAPPY SPRING . . . and, HAPPY FENG SHUI . . .
